My New Mac!!!

Why I want to leave my pc behind?

I’m getting tired of my current laptop and would like to get a new one. It is a PC and it has a lot of problems that limits its use. I can’t take it any where because the battery only holds its charge for about 15 seconds so I can’t take it and watch movies on planes or on long drives. When I edit videos, pictures and and make/record music, I have to use Levi’s or Dad’s computer because my PC doesn’t have a good video editing program. I would like to keep it for practicing guitar because it has louder speakers and keep up with the volume. Im leaving my PC and joining the real world.

My considerations are The MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air.

The MacBook Pro has:

500 GBs of storage
DVD player and burner
2 USB ports
Thunderbolt
Audio in and out
Built in microphone
Ether-net port
Fire wire port
SDXC card reader
7 hour battery life

The MacBook Air has:

64 GBs of storage
2 USB ports
thunderbolt
Audio out
built in microphone

It’s important to me to have:

a lot of space for movies, music, video etc.
a DVD player and burner
a card reader

I need all of these things because I use them on a regular basis on my PC and Mac’s have better programs. You can probably tell the MacBook Pro is a better computer for me to get. The MacBook Air is nice and skinny, 0.68 of a inch to be precise, but I would rather have one that is a bit bigger and fits better in my laptop bag. That is why my choice is the MacBook Pro. It will be really nice to have a laptop that I can actually be used for its purpose, not just staying in one place plugged into the wall.

Skiing

Last night we went to Sun Ridge Ski Hill. It is on the river valley and small, but it is only 12 minutes away. At first I tried snowboarding and that was ok but harder than I expected. I changed to skis after a few minutes and then it got fun. I have skied a bit before so it only took me one run to get the hang of it and then it just got more and more fun, until they closed the hill down. We are planing on going again in a day or two and I can’t wait to get back on the hill.

Future Predictions

In the magazine, The Futurist, in an insert called, “Outlook 2012: More Than 60 Forecasts For The Decade Ahead”, I found 6 different predictions that were interesting to me and that I thought were good ideas:
The Internet will automatically search itself so you don’t have to.
Enough geothermal energy to power the world.
The future is full of bicycles.
Gaming will help improve our ability to make decisions.
Ward off mosquitoes using the smell of their predators.
Watch out, St. Louis! The first prediction “The Internet will automatically search itself so you don’t have to” is a amazing idea that would be helpful, but it might be too complicated. I don’t think it it would be very accurate because it needs to anticipate what you want based on what you have searched before. What if you wanted to search something you never have searched before? It probably cant reed your mind so it probably cant think of the new thing you want to search.

Dig very deep, and you will find enough geothermal energy to power the world. That is a great idea for getting energy and heat. Some people are already using it but I think more and more people are going to be using geothermal energy. It will lower the amount of energy needed from power plants and with less activity in power plants means less fumes going into the air and resulting with cleaner air.

“The Future Is Full Of Bicycle’s” Is about more and more people using bikes or just walking to get places. That is a phenomenal idea because people would be getting exercise and getting where they need to be, at the same time. With less people driving there would be less accidents and less pollution

The prediction that gaming will help improve our ability to make decisions is a great idea because being able to make the right decisions quick is a great thing to be able to do. If what ever they are doing works, it will be a great tool for everyone to use.

Ward off mosquitoes using the smell of their predators. This prediction is about learning the smell of mosquitoes predator and releasing it in breeding areas. I don’t think that would work very well because then the mosquitoes would just go somewhere else. A other problem is If we have the predator’s sent and release it, will the predators of the mosquito’s predators start appearing?

The last prediction I chose is called “Watch out St Louis” It is about how St Louis is the most dangerous place because of all the ways natural disasters can occur in that area. They are on the New Madrid fault, the Mississippi river can flood and there is a massive amount of pollution. A other bad thing about St. Louis is that it has the highest crime rate of the USA. So when you go to St Louis you could be killed by a falling building caused by a earthquake, drown in a flood, choke to death from pollution and be stabbed all at the same time! Now I know where I’m not going to for vacation.

Over all the predictions the one that I thought was the most interesting (not the best) was using geothermal energy for heat because it has great potential and will cut down on pollution.

The Ottawa Science And Technology Museum

Today we went to the Ottawa Science And Technology Museum (O.S.T.M) and it was all really good. My favorite part was a Cryogenics demo, and if you don’t know what it is, it is freezing things with liquid nitrogen. One of the things they did was put a balloon filled with air in the liquid nitrogen and when they pulled it out the the air in the balloon compressed and when it warmed up the air came back. The next thing the guy did was he put a little bit of boiling water in a cup and then dumped the water in and…. well…. look.

They had a physics and electricity demo also but this one was my favorite.

Things We’ve Done In Ottawa

We’ve been in Ottawa for about a day and we’ve done a few things so far. We have gone for a drive around downtown Ottawa, gone to Quebec, went to Saint Andrew’s church, we went on a tour of the Parliament Building, went and looked at a war memorial and started a search for the best pizza place in Ottawa. We have a lot of things left to do and we have 6 more days to do all of them so it should be fun.

Galling

Galling (also known as cold welding) is when a new bolt is screwed in too fast and it wears off a protective coat on the threads. This causes the bolt and thread to fuse together. To prevent it, you apply anti-seize. Anti-seize is a greasy pasty substance with thin shard of metal mixed in. Applied on the bolts it will prevent the bolts from fusing with the threads.
