This happened on Sunday at airsoft. Doesn’t look as bad as it did on Monday. I hope it stays for a while. Haha
As you know I have been wanting to get a pistol for a very long time. I’ve been doing research to find the right one that has a balance between performance and reliability, not to mention easy to find parts.
After narrowing down the list of a lot of guns from many different companies, I have come down to the point of two guns because they are the most common. Reviews say they are reliable and there are a good supply of parts.
The first weapon is the WE High Capa. A High Capa is just a 1911 with a double stacked magazine and a heavier slide. A standard 1911 magazine (in airsoft) only holds 15 rounds. A high Capa can hold up to 30 rounds depending on which one you get. There are many different versions of the High Capa.
The High Capa Dragon – The High Capa Dragon normally comes in 5.1 length and in two different colors. It has a split slide so that the front part of the slide doesn’t move as the BB is being shot out of the barrel. It also has different sites than the normal High Capa. Since the slide is shorter, it is lighter than a normal High Capa slide. It doesn’t fit in that many holsters and It doesn’t look that good in my opinion.
The high Capa comes in many different lengths. As previously noted, it comes in 5.1, 4.3, and 3.8. The higher the number, the longer the slide, barrel, and frame.
The High Capa series all have their problems though. Mostly in the longer High Capa’s, the slide is too heavy for the gas to pull it back to load the next BB. Because of the design they are not that strong.
Many companies make parts for the High Capa series. Most of them for the 5.1 because it’s the most common model.
The next weapon is the SOCOM Gear 1911 MEU. SOCOM Gear is a company that buys WE guns and upgrades them. They put new barrels, springs and spring guides inside and put trademarks on the outside. There are a few kinds of 1911′s that they make but the one I want to focus on is the MEU.
The MEU has a 15 round single stacked magazine. A traditional gas gun magazine stacks the bbs in two offset rows. There is a lot of debate over how much gas the magazine holds. Some people say that after a while, they only get 7-9 shots off before they run out of gas. This problem is solved by proper filling of the magazine. The single stacked magazines are cheaper than the High Capa magazines and are more realistic. People have had problems with the magazine leaking and the base plate coming off. The reason for it leaking is because they aren’t lubing the magazine and the seals start drying out. The base plate coming off happens because they are slamming it into the gun too hard. SOCOM Gear has come out with a new design for the magazine which has a reinforced base plate that doesn’t come off.
The SOCOM Gear MEU comes in three different colors and according to many airsoft pistol review sites is considered the best 1911 out of the box (not including Tokyo Marui.) Tokyo Marui makes the best performing airsoft guns in the world, but because of Japan laws, Tokyo Marui isn’t allowed to have metal slides. This makes them a bit more fragile than full metal guns.
The SOCOM Gear MEU has a reinforced spring guide and a better piston head than the WE MEU. It is a reliable gun compared to the High Capa because of the design. It has a threaded adapter for a suppressor that you can attach. Using a suppressor will make the barrel heavy and not allow it to move that easily which means you will run out of gas before running out of BBs. A lot of companies make replacement parts for this weapon and there are lots of upgrade parts.
I think the most reliable gun out of the two is the SOCOM Gear MEU. For the reasons listed above, I think it is a better gun.
A person at airsoft is selling a M4 CQB for $100 and this is the reason I would like to have it.
I’ve been having a dilemma. I want my gun to shoot around 280-300 FPS so I can use it in the crates without people complaining about how much it hurts. But at that FPS, using it in the field wouldn’t be that good. Why? Because at that low FPS, the range wouldn’t be that good and it wouldn’t be able to penetrate through some of the leaves, bushes, etc etc.
I have been thinking about getting that gun. For a few reasons. I would take the gearbox from it and put it in my current M4. Mine has a longer barrel and the gearbox that he has in it shoots harder so there would be the range and penetration to use it in the field. I would put my gearbox with the Modular gears and a M90 spring (which would give me 280-300 FPS) in the body of that gun. It has a shorter barrel so I could use it in the crates without worrying about it being to long and heavy. (Which i am facing now.) Also. If that gearbox has 7mm bearings, we wouldn’t have to buy a gearbox shell. I would just take the internals from the gearbox that is in there now, and put it in my G&P gearbox. I could probably get it for $100. So instead of spending $60 on a gearbox shell, I could spend $100 and get a whole new gun and fix the one that I have now. (That is If the gearbox is 7mm.)
Friday was Levis birthday. We woke up at 7:00 AM, (not PM but that would be cool) and he opened his presents. I got him a pinnata. Continued tomorrow.
Ok, it is tomorrow and I am continuing. After Levi opened his presents we had breakfast and continued with our day. At 4:30 we picked up 3 friends and went to dads’ friend’s farm to play airsoft. When we got there, there was a gate and we didn’t have the right combination. So we waited 15 mins for dad to ask his friend for the code. by that time it was 5:30 and we had to get out of there by 8:30. (but we really left at 9:00) We played airsoft for an hour and a half then dad came with pizza. We stopped for 30 mins for food then played airsoft for the rest of the day. It was a fun birthday party and I want to do it again some time.
Nothing can describe the thoughts that were in my mind when I saw that despicable thing. Slithering through the long grass waiting. Waiting for its next meal to appear in its evil eyes. Who know what it would strike down or who. One bite would cause unbearable pain and suffering for its victim. Nobody would be able to stand the pain, screaming and yelling just one word, help……..
To be continued…….
My battery that came with my old MP5 that I am using in my newer MP5 is getting old and not holding its charge. So I did some research and I decided that I needed a LIPO battery. My friend from Lethbridge, Aaryn, is coming to visit and and we want to do Airsoft together and we need a extra gun. I need a battery to run the extra gun. I wanted a Lipo and there were not many choices because I wanted a standard one that wasn’t complicated because I have never used one before. Here are some differences between a Lipo/ Lithium Polymer and a NiMH/nicklemetalhydrate battery:
Pros
1. They last longer at least the one I’m getting.
2. They are much more powerful than nicklemetalhydrate (NiMH) and nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries
3. They have nearly double the capacity with half the weight of NiCd or NiMH battery packs.
4. They retain charge significantly longer than NiCd or NiMH batteries when not being used.
5. They do not develop a “memory” as NiCd batteries do.
http://www.hooked-on-rc-airplanes.com/lipo-battery-packs.html
Cons
1. A LiPo is kinda dangerous when it’s charging. They have a enormous amount of power in a tiny space and can explode if over-charged. But the one I am getting has a charger that has a automatic shut off and when the battery is fully charged it will cut the power.
2. If they get below 2.8 Volts they will not work any more but we can get a little chip for $15 that we can put on the battery so if the battery gets to 3 Volts it will beep and you know you should charge it.
The one I picked LIPO comes with a charger and a fire proof bag to charge it in. It is 11.1V. Voltage means the rate at which energy is drawn from a source that produces a flow of electricity the circuit. wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn.
It has 1,500 mAh which means milliamps. This is a rating for batteries. The higher the milliamp rating, the longer the cell can provide power and it will stay charged for a lot longer that the one that I have now www.rcnitrotalk.com/rc-terms/. Once we get it we will be ready for Aaryn’s visit.
Looking through the scope; waiting for my target to line up with the cross hairs. There it is. The perfect shot. I take it. What? Missed??? I’m upgrading my L96 Sniper Rifle because the hop up
broke.
A hop up is a chamber that the BB goes through before entering the barrel of the gun. The whole point of having a hop up is that it puts a back spin on the BB so that it shoots straight and you can adjust it. There is a knob that pushes down on a tube of rubber that puts a back spin on the BB. The adjustment can make the BB go up or down. You want the BB to go straight and without the hop up, you wouldn’t have that much range. The hop up chamber goes right in front of the barrel. The whole unit is about an inch long but it can vary with different chambers for different guns.
The reason I’m upgrading my hop up is because it broke. There are some other reasons a person might want to upgrade. One might be that you can adjust the gun to shoot how you want it to shoot. A new gun probably doesn’t feel or shoot right until you get used to it or adjust it to how you want it. Another reason might be to make it more powerful and accurate. Barrels have a lot of affect on accuracy and power. Most stock barrels are 6.08 mm. You can get barrels that are as small as 6.01 mm. High quality BBs are from 5.95 to 5.98 mm. Having a tighter barrel increases accuracy and adds around 30 FPS to your gun.
What kind of hop up do I need for L96 Sniper Rifle? There are many different kinds I could get. Lots of companies make them but they are really hard to find. A few allow you to use AEG inner barrels instead of sniper cut barrels. UTG is the brand of my gun and the hop up broke. UTG is a clone company that makes clones of guns. Clone guns are guns that are made just like high end companies but they use cheap parts like pot metal and cheap plastics. PDI is a high end company that makes parts. They make two different versions of hop ups for the L96. One can take sniper cut barrels and the other one, which is more popular, is one that take AEG barrels. PDI offers repair kits that have extra allen wrenches, O-rings, screws and almost anything you would need to fix the chamber. Lalax also make two different versions that do the same thing. Lalax hop ups are harder to find and aren’t as good as PDI but if you want a sniper cut barrel, then you should go with Lalax, that is if you can find them.
What barrel should I get? It depends which hop up I want to get. If I get a PDI hop up that needs a AEG barrel, then I would get a barrel cut for an AEG. If I have a Lalax chamber that uses sniper cut barrels then I would get a sniper cut barrel. I took a look at both AEG and sniper cut barrels and the only difference I saw was the groove that the bucking slid onto was on different sides and the sniper barrel had a straight cut hole for the bucking to press down on while the AEG had slanted sides. I could also choose to get a ported barrel. A ported barrel has a hole for all the air in the barrel to escape. That means that I get more accuracy but it leaks out 5-10 FPS because there is not as good air seal.
Everything costs money. The UTG hop up costs around $8 but it wouldn’t last long. The PDI hop up chamber can cost from $45-$60 depending on where you get it. Lalax will be slightly cheaper but is harder to find. The barrel will cost $80-$85 if I want it ported. Airsoft is not a cheap sport but hey, I’ll have this gun for a while.
I still haven’t decided which one to get. If I can’t find a Lalax one then I’ll have to go to PDI. By the time I realize I can’t find a Lalax, the PDI might be out of stock. Now I am always checking web sites for the chambers and it will take a while to find one. Dad and I ordered the UTG stock hop up and it should be here soon. It should hold up until I get a high end chamber. Happy Sniping Eh?

About 3 months ago my airsoft gun broke so we bought a part to fix it. When we took it apart the part didn’t fit. So 3 months later we modify the piece to fit but when we put it back together it shot a few times and then it stopped. We are still trying to figure out what isn’t right. Here’s some pictures of me putting it together.

This is a bunch of parts on the table.

This is me putting the gearbox (the thing with the gold piece) into the hand grip.

Now I am screwing the hand grip onto the gearbox.

I am about to put the whole gun together.

It is done
but it doesn't work
The day of Dec 4, I was at home waiting for dad to come and pick me up to go to RG8. I was nervous about being the youngest person there. Finally, dad came home and we packed up all our stuff, and started to drive.
RG8= Reindeer games 8 is an airsoft event. The 8 is for the 8th year they have been doing it and i don’t really know what the reindeer part is for. Maybe because it’s close to Christmas? There are usually around 200 people but this year there was only 140. You have to be 13 or older to play. Unfortunately, Caleb won’t be able to play for one more year.
It was only a 2 and a half hour drive so no need for a laptop. We left at around 6:30 and got to the field at around 9:00. It was dark as soon as we left and I typed in the address in the iPhone and started to tell dad where to go. It was a nice drive with lots of trees and one of towns we went through was just a long street with building on both sides with lights. We got to Jacksboro and started heading west to the field. We found it, drove in and parked. We waited for a while and went to bed
We slept in the van the night of Dec 4. Dad had to turn the van on every two hours to keep us warm enough. We moved most of the stuff out of the way so we could set up the sleeping bags and air mattresses. We climbed in and went to sleep. I was so cold only the top of my head was poking out. I woke up at 2:00 a.m. because dad was getting up to turn the van on. I went back to sleep and the next time I woke up was at 6:00 a.m. I got out of bed and unpacked the guns to go get them chronograph-ed (see how fast the guns shoot) .
I loaded up all our weapons and headed over to see how fast my gun shot. There is a little hand held machine that measures the speed of the BB rushing out of the barrel. It is all in FPS (feet per second): 350 for pistols, 400 for AEGs, 450 for support weapons and 550 for sniper rifles. My new gun chronograph-ed at around 330 with .25 gram bbs. We were suppose to chrono with .20 gram but I forgot where I put those. My sniper chrono-ed at 490 with the .25 gram and it would shoot around 545 with .20 gram.
Now we waited, and waited, and waited. We woke up at 6:00 and the first game was suppose to start at 9:00, so we had to wait for two and a half hours in the “cold” Texas air. There was no sun in the morning and a little bit windy so it made it feel colder.
Finally, the green team started to pile up into trucks to head out to the field. I decided to use my new AEG. We had 22 people in AA (Abilene Airsoft). That was most of the tan team! We were on the tan team which means that we were wearing tan pants and black shirts. Tan was out numbered 2 to 1. We started to walk to the field. Our first objective was to take a radio tower. There was two hills and between them was the tower. We climbed up the first hill and there they were. The green team was on the other hill with twice as many people as us. They quickly got rid of us. We went back to the re-spawn (we wait for 5 minutes to come back to life) point and they started coming down the hill. We held them off for the rest of the game.
Next, they tried to take our village but we held them off there also. The whole rest of that game in the morning was trying to hold them off from taking our village. I was suppose to stick with dad but we got separated a lot. There was not that much interesting things in that game; just trying to protect the village. We did manage to do that. The first game lasted 3 hours. We all piled in to trucks and headed back to the vehicles to eat lunch. Even though we held the village……. we still got WHOOPED!!!! We lost because the commanders of our team were mad at AA for some reason and told us to do things that would get us killed.
Now the good part. The second game we were driven out to where the green team were the last game. The game started and we headed up a creek bed that was 10 feet high on both sides. We were in the middle of it when they yelled out that the green team were coming…. with twice as many people as us. So we were stuck in a creek bed with no cover except each other.
Since we were about to get shot a lot I’ll explain what happens when you get shot. First, scream out that you’ve been hit or you will get shot even more and put the kill rag (red cloth) on your head to indicate you have been shot. Second, call for a medic and stand in front of people who are still “alive” so they don’t get hit. If the medic comes, stand in front of him so he doesn’t get shot trying to save you. You get a rope with three knots in it. The medic has to untie one of them for you to be “alive” again. Then, start shooting back at them.
In this game we actually did quite good for being outnumbered. We gained ground and started to push up the creek bed and finally could get out of it. We kept on pushing them out of the woods that we were in back to the clearing right below the hill that we got whooped at earlier in the day. I was using my sniper rifle so I could pick people off where they couldn’t hit me. 8) We pushed out of the woods into the clearing and then around 20 or 30 green people came down the hill and just stood around waiting for us to come towards them. I had the range to hit them so I started picking them off one by one. Lenbo was also shooting at them with his sniper and in under five minutes we shot all of them. We went back up to the woods and one of them snuck around us. Dad saw him and he called me to come and take him out. I was sneaking around a clump of bushes and I saw him lying on the ground facing away from me. Since I can’t shoot anybody unless they are more that 100 feet away, I put my sniper rifle down and went back to get the G36 from dad. When I had it I was going to go up and surrender him but he started to walk towards us. I was just about to shoot him when dad said “surrender”. So I didn’t shoot him (nuts). That is the first time I have ever surrendered anybody. At the end of the game we just wanted to do something silly so we attacked the green village and got whooped again. Ahhhh,,,,, what a great way to end the day. This game lasted 4 hours and we did better because we didn’t listen to the commanders. :p
After we packed up everything we went to the raffle to see if we could win anything. I won a $50 gift card!!!! The best thing to win was a Systema PTW that was worth over $1000. I still don’t know what to buy but I will know soon. Dad didn’t win anything so he got first pick on the free stuff.
I had a really good time and I hope to not only be there next year, but win something better…… On the way home I called mom and ZzZzZzZzZzZzZ and when we go home I just went to bed.
The last airsoft game that I played I used 1200 BB’s so dad said that I had to do the math and figure out how much it cost me. I did and I found out that I used $4.5o worth of BB’s. I had to do this on paper so I couldn’t use a calculator. You might think it is a lot but in Lethbridge it cost $2.00 just to enter plus BB’s.
