Skiing

Last night we went to Sun Ridge Ski Hill. It is on the river valley and small, but it is only 12 minutes away. At first I tried snowboarding and that was ok but harder than I expected. I changed to skis after a few minutes and then it got fun. I have skied a bit before so it only took me one run to get the hang of it and then it just got more and more fun, until they closed the hill down. We are planing on going again in a day or two and I can’t wait to get back on the hill.

Jello Night

Last friday we went to our youth group and they had a event called Jello Night. You probably guess what we did that night. We played games with jello! There was a kiddy swimming pool full of it. There was jello everywhere and everyone was covered to toe in it. My hands and feet were orange at the end of the night. They had all kinds of silly games and at the end there was a slip and slide with jello. That’s probably when I got the messiest. After that I had to get changed and cleaned up so I could play drums in the worship band. I had a lot of fun!

First Windsurfing of 2011….. Scary?

We went windsurfing for the first time this year. The water wasn’t that cold so we didn’t have to wear a wet suit. We got everything out and ready and started going.

The wind was blowing a different direction than what I was used to, but I ended up going pretty fast out to the other side of the lake. It’s when I turned around it got… a little freaky. I wanted to go back to get some water so I tried to go to the shore. The wind was going a different way than what I wanted it to and it was really hard. I had to zig zag back a few times and I was really tired.

When I finally did get back one of the guys that was there said, “Come on, the wind is great!”, so I ended up going out again, which was my first mistake. My second mistake was that I should have gone with a smaller sail. Caleb down-sized when he came in so I could have used his, which is smaller. The wind had picked up and I started sailing. It was great going out, but I had the same problem coming back in. Except this time I was REALLY tired. I wasn’t even half way back when I dropped the sail and had to sit down on the board to rest. I did that a few more times and had to swim the rest of the way back to the shore, where I carried the sail and board back to the shacks to put them away. Here are some pic…

Oh BTW… It was 36C.

Bearing Cleaner

Levi, Dad, and I have been playing roller hockey outside all fall and our bearings are dirty. We bought some BSB Bearing Cleaner but it is not strong enough to clean grease out of high end bearings. It was okay at first but after a few washes it lost its acidity. It was supposed to be Eco friendly so it didn’t have much acidity. We need a stronger cleaner that works, that is cheap and that is easy to get.

Cleaners/solvents are liquids that dissolve and will interact with other liquids to achieve a specifically designed purpose. In some cases, the solvent solution will be employed as a cleaning agent. In other instances, the solvent will permeate a surface and provide a degree of protection. A solvent may also offer a degree of lubrication as well, although this type of solvent usually only lasts for a short period of time.

I have read that paint thinner, acetone and alcohol work the best and I am going to list the pros and cons of each.

Paint thinner:

Pros
1. It is strong enough to clean out grease.
2. It is easy to find in stores.
3. It is cheap.

Cons
1. It leaves a residue that over time will eat away at the bearings.

Acetone:

Pros

1. It dissolves grease.
2. It is easy to get.
3. Lots of people use it and say it is good.

Cons
1. It does leave a residue but not as bad as paint thinner.
2. CAUTION don’t get nail polish remover without looking at the ingredients to make sure that it is pure acetone.

Alcohol:

Pros
1. It works good and doesn’t leave a residue.
2. It is cheap.

Cons
1. It has to be 95% pure alcohol.
2. It is hard to find.

After all my research, I have found out that acetone or pure alcohol is the best and easiest to find. and other people agree with me that citrus cleaner is not strong enough. Paint thinner is not good because of the residue so we need to find some acetone or alcohol.

Stuff We Did With Grandma & Grandpa

Grandma and Grandpa were here for almost 2 weeks and I haven’t blogged in a while about the things that we did. We did so much it would take too long to tell you everything that happened in order. I will put up pictures with captions but they will not be in order  .

This is us on a big armadillo in Buffalo Gap.

We went windsurfing and Grandpa came to watch.

This is me windsurfing the end of November (BRRRRRRRR)

We made our first fire in our fireplace.

This is grandpa mowing the lawn.

This is me trying to put up Christmas lights.

This is us making bread and rolls. Levi and Grandma made cookies too.

We had Thanksgiving dinner with some friends.

We played some card games.

We went to see our friend's longhorns.

and we took some mistletoe from our mesquite tree for Grandma.

They left this morning and I all ready miss them

Hockey Game….. Again

Only 3 hockey games left this season. Last night we had all our players, but we still did sticks in the middle. I didn’t want to do this because we had our whole team but it wasn’t that bad. I got two goals and a few assists. I like playing with my own team, but playing against some of them was pretty fun too.

Rollerblades

The bearings in my rollerblades got dirty so I needed to clean them. This is the process:

I took the bearings out of the wheels.

I took them apart.

I put them on a little rack.

I put them in a little container filled with something like paint thinner. I waited a few minutes then took them out.

I took them off the rack

I blew them off with the air compressor.

I cleaned the extra dirt off.

I oiled them.

I put them back together.

I put them back into the wheels.

and put the wheels back on the rollerblades.

Hockey 11/1/2010 5th game

We got a video from last night’s hockey game and Levi was commentating in his Red Green voice and it is really funny. It was nice and cool (I think only 19 F, no just kidding 19 C) and it was breezy. I had fun because I was on Dad’s team and helped them win their first game. We won 10 to 4. There is an imbalance on the teams. The Stars (green team) have 5 , including the goalie and the Aviators (grey team) have 8, but the Stars are much better. Next weak we are going to even them out a little. I think it will make it more fun for everybody if it is equal.

Last Night Hockey Game

We won 9 to 3 again and I only got one goal. The other team got the first two goals and that really scared us. after the second period the score was 6 to 3. We got a lot of penalties and we were really tired. I had a lot of shots but they got smart and started standing in front of them so the puck wouldn’t get close the net. It was really annoying for me but smart for them.
