I had a couple of doctor appointments last week. Nothing serious, more fun than anything and I drove over to the area where the newer hospital and specialist offices were located. It’s about a 10 block radius of buildings gathered round the hospital. I thought I’d go a bit early and grab a coffee if I had the time and didn’t get lost among the maze of buildings and parking lots. I drove around, and around, and around and nowhere, other than a gas station, was there anything remotely resembling a coffee shop, deli, grab and go type of place. I thought that surely this would be a dream come true for Tim Horton’s. A dry (coffee) area of town, no competition, a whole lot of people that need to go there, and a whack of people employed within a 10 block radius. Also, it’s a major thoroughfare to a huge and popular school district.
Why, oh why, must I be a secondary alien when there’s a business opportunity like this? I know, I don’t know the rules and regulations of business in Abilene and of course, I wouldn’t want to start one, but I think the Starbucks franchise need to open their eyes…

Today we are going pomegranate picking. A family we know have a pomegranate bush growing on their front driveway and she said they are ripe for the taking. With them being $1 a piece at the store, guess I’d say it’s a good deal. The bush isn’t prickly or nasty, so the picking is easy. We’ll only take a couple, because they are a bit of a pain to eat, but I must say, I’ve never heard anyone offer to let us do this before: cranberry, raspberry, strawberry, apple, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, but never pomegranate.
