It is so cold. It dropped down to 82F today. It was so cold we had to use a wet suit to go wind surfing.
Yesterday we went to my friends grandpas house because I wanted to cutout a wood gun that I would carve. I am all most done one side of it then I have to do the top and the other side.
I will update it hopefully every night.
What we did yesturday:
uh…. I can’t remember. We went to ACU and walked around and had supper at the Bean. After that we went to small group.
Today we went to Buffalo Gap to see the things you go to see at Buffalo Gap. We got stuck on the butt of an armadillo, held up traffic to get a picture of a garbage can, and went to see the pottery shop.
Only 3 hockey games left this season. Last night we had all our players, but we still did sticks in the middle. I didn’t want to do this because we had our whole team but it wasn’t that bad. I got two goals and a few assists. I like playing with my own team, but playing against some of them was pretty fun too.
A crisp night in the country, a family invites a whack of high schoolers over for a night of games, a fire for s’mores and a movie. They attempt to bridge the gap of peerless learning in the life of a teenager. Have I told you how lovely the people are in Abilene?
The Texan couple and I are left out by the fire, brimming in it’s cage surrounded by horse shoes. The fire burns, crackles and warms as they tell me their story: met, 30 days later engaged, wed nineteen years ago. The have 3 sons, 13 and under and then wrapped twin 16 year old nieces into their family last year. They live in a 3 bedroom 2 bath home and she home educates them all. My head bends low. How we searched for a home “large” enough for our little family.
The son, Caleb’s age, invites us to his baptism at Jacob’s Dream at ACU. We walk up to the crowd of people. He sees us and thanks us for coming. The father, in hip waders, moves into the little pool. The words circling the pool, ” And the LORD shall guide thee, continually”. The father reaches for his a niece’s hand and draws her forward, “Have you trusted in Jesus to take care of your eternity?”, and waits for her yes. He dips her in. He reaches for his son’s hand and brings him in. The same question with tears in his voice; the same answer. A celebration of commitment for the people to share.
This father and his wife have asked us what we are doing for Thanksgiving. They are having extended family, all who live around Abilene, and a few others. They are still looking for Thanksgiving orphans; inviting us to join. They love and are loved and share what ever God places in their hands.
As we drive away from the warmth of their hearts and fire I am humbled by such simple kindness. Have I told you how lovely the people are in Abilene?
This still, after all these years, or maybe because of all these years….makes me cry. Thank you, God, for your peace and for the men and women who stand between us and those who want to destroy. We remember. We thank.
It’s warm and dark and Caleb and I were out trying out our new….hedge trimmer!! I didn’t think I’d ever get excited about such a thing. I do believe our neighbors would have thought we were really hippies (along with Levi’s untrimmed hair, we’ve let our hedges go as well:).
So maybe we’ll get some pictures up tomorrow, cause we don’t want to go crazy in the dark and see some regretful results in the morning.
The bearings in my rollerblades got dirty so I needed to clean them. This is the process:
I took the bearings out of the wheels.
I took them apart.
I put them on a little rack.
I put them in a little container filled with something like paint thinner. I waited a few minutes then took them out.
I took them off the rack
I blew them off with the air compressor.
I cleaned the extra dirt off.
I oiled them.
I put them back together.
I put them back into the wheels.
and put the wheels back on the rollerblades.
